Strategic Choice and Strategic Decision Making

Making choices and decisions is at the heart of management. Our assistance will to enable you to make more informed and better decision. We achieve this by helping you identify appropriate evaluation criteria, by generate a range of options and by screen these options.

In developing the criteria for decision making, we will examine your corporate purpose and aspirations. We then examine the compatibility between corporate and business unit strategies.

To generate a broad range of strategic options we first examine the internal strategic development options. This includes considering generic strategies such as protect and building, product development, market development or diversification. Then we consider external strategic development options such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

Having generated a range of options we start the evaluation and selection process. We consider the three criteria of suitability, acceptability and feasibility. Suitability is an assessment of the option against the organizations strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, culture, people and politics. Acceptable is an assessment in terms of risk, return and stakeholders reaction. Feasibility is an assessment in terms of whether the organization has the capabilities to implement the option. At each stage of the assessment the options are screened and possibly eliminated. Finally, the choice is made based on the relative merits of the remaining option.
